04 Dec RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition
The fifth RNCM James Mottram International Piano Competition took place at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, UK from Monday 28 November – Saturday 3 December 2016. Florian was one of the three participants chosen by the jury to take part in the final and was awarded the second prize for his performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 21 in C major K 467. The competition is a major biennial event and it was a great privilege for Florian to perform with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of their Chief Conductor, Vasily Petrenko.
I had an absolutely terrific time performing one of my favourite concertos with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic under the baton of Vasily Petrenko. There was an incredible buzz from this fantastic orchestra, and I am so grateful for the fantastic support from all of the players and Maestro Petrenko.
Congratulations to Clément (Lefebvre) and Daumants (Liepiņš) for their superb performances. It was an evening of Classical concertos, some of the best music ever written. My thanks to the Royal Northern College of Music who were wonderful hosts all week. RNCM has the most amazing modern facilities and wonderful pianos to play: they have some very lucky students! Thanks too to the members of the jury: I have some very happy memories from this last week.
The final was recorded live at the RNCM Concert Hall by Classic FM and Jane Jones presents the programme in The Full Works Concert broadcast on Tuesday 13th December 2016 at 8.00 pm (GMT) online and on FM and DAB (and available for up to 7 days afterwards via the Classic FM Radioplayer).
