A solo recital of music by Mozart in the Great Hall at Dartington. This year the Dartington International Summer School & Festival reaches its 70th anniversary. Dartington is a place of extraordinary beauty and creativity, and its ancient buildings and dream-like gardens resonate and shimmer with generations of musicians, artists, dancers, poets and writers. Each year the Summer School sets out to do something unique: to create a community of all ages and backgrounds, coming together in a fantastic atmosphere of study and friendship, celebration and performance. It is a music school by day, and a concert hall by night and you can listen to up to three concerts each evening.
This concert is Florian’s contribution to the third week of the Summer School, when once again he will also be teaching a piano workshop and a course on music for two pianos and piano duets. You can find full details of the teaching programme on the Summer School’s website.
The concert follows a lecture earlier in the evening on playing Mozart by Alfred Brendel (separate admission). Brendel writes, ‘Mozart is made neither of porcelain, nor of marble, nor of sugar. The cute Mozart, the perfumed Mozart, the permanently ecstatic Mozart, the “touch-me-not” Mozart, the sentimentally bloated Mozart must all be avoided.’ So no pressure!
