Florian is continuing the Beethoven and beyond project in Stratford-upon-Avon, with a recital for the Stratford Chamber Music Society. This recital is a postponed event which should have taken place last year, but could not go through because of the pandemic. It is wonderful that concerts are beginning to happen again, and audiences across the country have welcomed Florian with enormous joy and enthusiasm. Restrictions mean that ticket numbers are very limited, and audience members have to wear a mask during the event, but it is nonetheless a great privilege to play for a real audience after nearly two years of isolation and lonely performances in empty venues.
The concert pairs early Sonatas by Beethoven with echoing works by Liszt and Chopin. It consists mainly of pieces Florian learnt during the pandemic, but the programme has already had a few outings. Every performance is fresh and opens up new horizons. The feedback has been wonderfully positive, audiences rejoice in being able to celebrate Beethoven’s legacy, not as a museum exhibit, but as a living organism, alive and relevant today as it was over 200 years ago. It appeals to audiences at all levels, whether you enjoy its bravura and drama, its timelessness and peace, or its life-affirming strength and brilliance.
