Florian Mitrea is an ARD 2014 double prizewinner after he was awarded one of two third prizes (no first prize was awarded) for piano in the 63rd International ARD Music Competition in Munich, Germany. Florian was also awarded the Classical Concerto Prize.

“I am honoured and excited to be a prize-winner at the ARD 2014 International Music Competition. I have learned so much through taking part, made new friends and enjoyed the opportunity to perform with both the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. The two weeks I have spent in Munich have been an incredible experience.”

A record total of 519 musicians and ensembles (including 59 pianists) from 50 countries and 5 continents entered for the 63rd ARD International Music Competition, which this year included the categories of piano, cello, percussion and wind quintet.

The ARD Music Competition began 62 years ago in Munich, under the auspices of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. It is acknowledged to be the largest classical music competition in the world, since it encompasses several categories each year and 20 categories in all.
